About Duo

Overview

To protect against phishing and other exploits of stolen passwords, Information Services is implementing Duo Security two-factor authentication. Duo multifactor authentication is required when signing in to certain resources from off-campus, including: Bannerweb, VPN, Cyberark, Apex applications, Slate, Maxient.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) strengthens security by requiring two factors to verify your identity, such as something you know (NetID/password) plus something you have (mobile device/app).  

Details

Faculty, Staff and Students must enroll in Duo to access the VPN and to gain access to BannerWeb off campus.

The Duo app on your Android or Apple smart phone or tablet will prompt you to accept authentication after entering your NetID and password to connect to the VPN or sign in to BannerWeb. Hardware Tokens can also generate a passcode that can be entered after sign in. 

This prevents unauthorized access even if your password has been compromised by an email phishing attack, because the remote perpetrator will not have access to your physical device. If you believe your password has been compromised, it is still important to reset it promptly or contact the University Help Desk.
