How to Enroll in Duo with a Smartphone

Overview

Faculty, Staff and Students must enroll in Duo to access the VPN and to gain access to BannerWeb off campus.

Most people find using the app on a smartphone or tablet to be most convenient. The app allows users the ability to either receive a "push" notification or to generate a passcode.

Instructions

  1. Go to https://duo.richmond.edu and sign in with your NetID and Password.
  2. Click on the button for Enroll.
  3. Enter your University ID number and your Birthdate. Click Enroll.
  4. For the Device Type, select Phone.
  5. Enter a name for your device, for example: John’s iPhone
  6. Enter your phone number.
  7. Select the platform for your mobile phone.  
  8. Click Add Device.
  9. You will be prompted to confirm that you have the Duo Mobile App installed on your mobile device. If you do not, you can download the app from the App store, or use the following links:
  10. Once the app is installed, click on the button for I have Duo Mobile.
  11. If you are using your smartphone to do the enrollment process, click on the button for Activate Device.
  12. If you are doing the enrollment process on a different device than your smart phone, open the Duo Mobile app on your smart phone and click the “+” at the top right corner. This will require access to your camera and you will need to scan the QR code that is displayed on the screen.
  13. You will then be successfully enrolled with Duo. In the Duo app on your phone, you will see an item for Duo-Protected University of Richmond.
