How to Enroll in Duo

Overview

Faculty, Staff, and Students must enroll in Duo Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) to access the VPN and to gain access to Bannerweb off campus. A project is currently in process to require Duo MFA to access University email, as well. All faculty, staff, and current students must use Duo MFA for University email access.

Most people find using the Duo app on a smartphone or tablet to be most convenient. The Duo app allows users the ability to receive a "push" notification to approve logging in.

A Duo hardware token is an option for users who do not have access to install the Duo app on a smartphone or tablet.

Enroll in Duo with a SmartphoneShow

Go to https://duo.richmond.edu and sign in with your NetID and Password.
Click on the button for Enroll.
Enter your University ID number and your Birthdate. Click Enroll.
For the Device Type, select Phone.
Enter a name for your device, for example: John’s iPhone
Enter your phone number.
Select the platform for your mobile phone.
Click Add Device.
You will be prompted to confirm that you have the Duo Mobile App installed on your mobile device. If you do not, you can download the app from the App store, or use the following links:

Once the app is installed, click on the button for I have Duo Mobile.
If you are using your smartphone to do the enrollment process, click on the button for Activate Device.
If you are doing the enrollment process on a different device than your smart phone, open the Duo Mobile app on your smart phone and click the “+” at the top right corner. This will require access to your camera and you will need to scan the QR code that is displayed on the screen.
You will then be successfully enrolled with Duo. In the Duo app on your phone, you will see an item for Duo-Protected University of Richmond.

Enroll in Duo with a TabletShow

Go to https://duo.richmond.edu and sign in with your NetID and Password.
Click on the button for Enroll.
Enter your University ID number and your Birthdate. Click Enroll.
For the Device Type, select Tablet.
Enter a name for your device, for example: John’s iPad
Select the platform for your tablet.
Click Add Device.
You will be prompted to confirm that you have the Duo Mobile App installed on your device. If you do not, you can download the app from the App store, or use the following links:

Once the app is installed, click on the button for I have Duo Mobile.
If you are using your tablet to do the enrollment process, click on the button for Activate Device.

Enroll in Duo with a Hardware TokenShow

Go to https://duo.richmond.edu and sign in with your NetID and Password.
Click on the button for Enroll.
Enter your eight-digit University ID number and your Birthdate. Click Enroll.
For the Device Type, select Hardware Token.
Enter the Serial Number for your token. This can be found on the back of the token above the barcode.
Click on the button on the hardware token once, and enter the passcode that is displayed, on the webpage in the Passcode field.
Click Add Device.
Your hardware token will be successfully enrolled to you in Duo.
