Windows 10 Version Upgrades


Information Services needs to continue the process of applying patches and critical Windows 10 version updates to UR computer assets. Remember that a computer that is patched and updated on a regular basis helps to protect you against cyber threats, and this is especially important with increased Internet activity in general. In order for your Windows machine to receive this important version update, we recommend that you follow one of these options.


Details / Instructions

How to check the version of Windows 10 you currently are running.

Go to start button and then type winver and a box will popup and tell you what version of Windows 10 you are currently running. If the version is less then 1909, please follow the upgrade instructions below.


Option 1 (Recommended)

The Windows 10 version update will take approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours to install. As is part of the normal process, the computer will need to restart to complete the process. We recommend doing the version update at the end of the work day to minimize any impact to your regular work schedule, You can do this at any time of the day or evening.  The important thing to remember is that the version update will require a restart. The Windows 10 version update will prompt you from the Software Center under Microsoft Endpoint Manager in the computer Software list.

Option 2

Follow the instructions how to update your computer through Windows Update. This will apply the OS updates directly from Microsoft. The feature update will look like the picture below. Click on Download and install now.

Option 3

Download the Microsoft update assistant utility from Microsoft located here: . This will apply the OS version update directly from Microsoft using the assistant.
