Windows 10 Version Upgrades

Overview

Information Services needs to continue the process of applying patches and critical Windows 10 version updates to UR computer assets. Remember that a computer that is patched and updated on a regular basis helps to protect you against cyber threats, and this is especially important with increased Internet activity in general. In order for your Windows machine to receive this important version update, we recommend that you follow one of these options.

 

Details / Instructions

How to check the version of Windows 10 you currently are running.

1) Go to Windows Start button and then type winver

2) Left-click "winver" in the "Best match" list.

3)  If the version is less then Version 22H2, please follow the upgrade instructions below. In the example below, the system is on Version 22H2, nothing further would be needed. This information is on the second line, directly below "Microsoft Windows".

4) Follow the instructions how to update your computer through Windows Update. Click on Start and select settings. Select Update and Security. Select Advanced options button at the bottom of the page. Enable Receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows.

5) Click on the Back button at the top left. Select Check online for updates from Microsoft Update.

5) This will apply the OS updates directly from Microsoft. If prompted for Windows 11 upgrade, please select stay on Windows 10 for now button.

Important: If there are any feature updates for Windows 10 (ie 22H2 version). Click on Download and install now.

6) If you are unable to download Windows 10 22H2 version through Microsoft updates (using the steps above), you can Download the Microsoft update assistant utility from Microsoft to upgrade to the latest version (22H2) you can access the download located here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159635/windows-10-update-assistant . This will apply the OS version update directly from Microsoft using the assistant.

This could take a few hours to finish. Once done verify the version of Windows 10 using the instructions at the beginning of this article by click on start and typing winver to see what version the computer is running
