How to Check Online for Updates through Microsoft Update

Instructions for how to manually check for updates to your Windows computer through Windows Update. 

Details / Instructions

  1. Click the Start button. 
  2. Click on Settings or the Settings icon.

  3. Select Update and Security.

  4. Select Advanced Options and select Receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows 
  5. Select the back button at the top left
  6. Select Check online for updates from Microsoft Update or Check for updates.
  7. Check online for updates
  8. Windows will download and install any updates that are needed. 
NOTE: When you see a feature update available please start this at a time that you will not need your computer, as the feature updates may take up to an hour. When you are ready to install the feature update, select download and install now. You can choose to schedule the feature update installation as well.
