Overview
Have you ever received an email from an unfamiliar or suspicious sender? Did the email message have a sense of urgency along with a website link for you to get additional information? You may have just received a potential phishing email.
It can be hard to tell whether an email is valid or a phishing attempt especially as cyber criminals are getting more sophisticated with their phishing campaigns. The UR IS security team has some tips below to help you be able to better spot a phishing email attempt.
Details/ Instructions
1. Receive an unexpected or unfamiliar email -> (take a) PAUSE
- From a sender (or email address) you do not know
- An email message you were not expecting

2. Check if "official" email is in the UR directory -> THINK (is this email legit?)
- Navigate to the People Tab (Under Calendar)
- Search if the "official" richmond.edu email exists in the UR directory


3. Hover Over a Link to Check if it's Safe to Click -> ACT
- Move your mouse over the link to preview the url
- Unfamiliar or suspicious links forward to spam@richmond.edu
