Windows Keyboard Shortcuts

Overview

The Windows operating system has a handful of helpful key combinations (shortcuts) that you can use to be more efficient.

Details / Instructions

  • Copy: Ctrl + C

  • Cut: Ctrl + X

  • Paste: Ctrl + V

  • Open the Windows start menu: Windows logo key   

  • Maximize Window: F11 or Windows logo key   + Up arrow 

  • Open Task View: Windows logo key   + Tab

  • Display and hide the desktop: Windows logo key  + D

  • Open the Quick Link menu: Windows logo key  + X

  • Lock your PC: Windows logo key  + L

  • Full-screen screenshot: Windows logo key PrtScn (Hint: the screenshot is copied automatically to the system clipboard, you can "paste" it into a document, email, etc). 

  • Region capture: Windows logo key + Shift + S

  • Open File Explorer: Windows logo key   + E.

  • Switch between open applications: Alt + Tab

  • Close the active application: Alt + F4 (Hint: This is a fantastic solution for quickly closing scareware and popups!)

  • Rename a file/folder: F2

  • Adjust the magnification of the active window: Ctrl + mouse wheel
