Remove Wi-Fi networks from Preferred Networks list in macOS

Overview

Your Mac may automatically join a wireless network you have previously connected to. This can occasionally cause problems with connecting to the correct wireless network or the wireless network you intended to join.

The steps below detail how to remove unwanted Wi-Fi networks from your list of Preferred Networks in macOS. This will prevent your Mac from automatically joining specific wireless networks.

Instructions

macOS 12 Monterey and BelowShow

1. Click the Apple menu  in the upper-left corner and select System Preferences.

2. Click Network.

3. Select Wi-Fi from the list of connections on the left, then click Advanced.

4. Find the network you wish to remove in the list of Preferred Networks and select it.

5. Click the minus button to remove the network.

6. Verify the network has been removed from the Preferred Networks list.

7. Repeat the above process for any other networks you wish to remove.

8. Once you have finished removing networks, click OK, then click Apply.

macOS 13 Ventura and AboveShow

1. Click the Apple menu  in the upper-left corner and select System Settings.

2. Select Wi-Fi from the settings on the left, scroll down on the right and click Advanced.

3. Under the Known Networks section, find the network you wish to remove and click the circle with three dots in it.

4. In the window that pops up, click Remove From List.

5. Click Remove in the confirmation window that appears.

6. Repeat the above process for any other networks you wish to remove.

7. Once you have finished removing networks, click Done.
