Mac OS: How to setup a Printer Preset

Overview

Mac OS allows the creation & usage of printer presets, this allows you to quickly create printer-specific preferences such as paper handling, layout options, finishing options such as stapling, duplex (two-sided) printing, etc. By creating a printer preset you can select all of your preferred options (1) time and access those preferences anytime.

Details / Instructions

  1. Open any application that allows you to print (Microsoft Word for example).
  2. Open the Print Dialog Box (generally File -> Print or Command +P). 
  3. Choose the printer you would like to make a preset for.
  4. Adjust settings as desired under all available categories (e.g. Layout, DuplexPaper Handling, Finishing, Color, Printer Options, etc).
    • Note: Available options will vary among printers. 

  5. At the top of the Print window, Click on "Default Settings" next to "Presets" and choose "Save Current Settings as Preset".

     

  6. Choose a Preset Name and click "OK".  

  7. To select the preset change the field "Presets" from "Default Settings" to the name of your desired preset.
