Information Services Alert: Emailed Google Drive Phishing Attempts
Information Services continues to see phishing attempts sent using shared Google Drive links. Please remain vigilant when interacting over email with anyone asking you to access data over a link to an external resource, such as Google or Microsoft. Unless you were expecting the communication and know the sender, always verify the legitimacy of the email before interacting with it.
Some methods for verifying the legitimacy of an email are:
1. Contact the sender over an alternate channel, such as a phone call or text, to verify that they sent you the message.
2. If you are familiar with the sender and have exchanged email with them previously, you can send them a separate email instead of replying to the suspected phishing message. If you reply to the suspect message, this may instead go to the bad actor.
3. Forward the message to spam@richmond.edu to report a suspected phishing attempt and allow us to review the message.
If you receive a suspected phishing message and need assistance in determining if it is legitimate, please contact the Help Desk at 804-287-6400 or Information Security at infosec@richmond.edu. Do not interact with any suspect email message until you confirm it is legitimate.
