Information on what accessories come with new Mac requests and other accessories you may request or purchase from the IS Procurement office

Overview

When you receive a new Mac through the Computer Help Desk as a standalone purchase, primary computer replacement, or as a secondary computer request, you will be provided with some standard accessories as outlined below. If needed, you can request or purchase a variety of accessories to go along with your new computer. Some examples of what you may need can be found below.

Standard Accessories

Notebooks:

  • For new purchases or primary replacements, you will receive:
  • For secondary requests, you will receive the appropriate charging cable and power adapter depending on the model of Mac provided. A secondary backpack or messenger bag is available by request

Desktops: For new purchases or primary replacements and secondary requests, you will receive a keyboard and mouse along with the power cable. Additional accessories available by request

Please note, all computer related purchases must be conducted through the IS Procurement Office.

Adapters

  • USB-C to USB Adapter: Allows you to connect flash drives, printers, or other accessories that have traditional USB connectors
  • USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter: Allows you to connect an external monitor or projector using HDMI to your Mac. Also includes a USB port for connecting other accessories that have traditional USB connectors
  • USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter: Allows you to connect an external monitor or projector using VGA to your Mac. Also includes a USB port for connecting other accessories  that have traditional USB connectors
  • Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter: Allows you to connect an external monitor or accessory using Thunderbolt 2 to your Mac
  • USB-C to Ethernet Adapter: Allows you to connect an Ethernet cable, if you need a wired connection to a network

Docks

  • ThinkPad Universal Dock: Lenovo's ThinkPad Universal Docks come in a variety of models and are compatible with Apple's MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The dock allows you to connect one external display, a mouse, a keyboard, Ethernet, speakers and up to four other USB and USB-C accessories

Monitors

Macs can support between one and four external displays with resolutions up to 8K, depending on the model.

  • MacBook Air: Supports one external display or two external displays with the notebook closed
  • MacBook Pro: Supports two external displays
  • iMac: Supports two external displays
  • Mac mini: Supports three displays
  • Mac Studio: Supports five displays

Wireless Keyboards and Mice

  • Magic Keyboard: Apple's second generation wireless keyboard. Charges via a Lightning cable that is included in the box
  • Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad: Same as the standard Magic Keyboard, but with a numeric keypad
  • Magic Mouse: Apple's second generation wireless mouse. Charges via a Lightning cable that is included in the box
  • Magic Trackpad: Apple's second generation wireless trackpad. Charges via a Lightning cable that is included in the box
