How to Find your Computer's MAC Address

Overview

The instructions below can used to find the MAC Address for your computer. Instructions are provided for finding either the wireless or wired/Ethernet Address for Windows, MacOS, and Chromebooks. 

The format of the MAC address will be sets of two characters, letters and/or numbers, separated by colons or dashes. The MAC Address consists of a total of 12 characters. 

MAC Address example: AA:12:BB:34:CC:56

Windows: 

Wireless MAC Address
Wired/Ethernet MAC Address

MacOS: 

Wireless MAC Address
  1. Click on the Apple icon and select System Preferences/System Settings.
  2. Click on Network.
  3. Make sure that Wifi (or Airport) is selected in the column on the left and then click on Advanced.
  4. The MAC address will be shown at the bottom of the Wi-Fi (or Airport) section.
Wired/Ethernet MAC Address
  1. Click on the Apple icon.
  2. Select System Preferences/System Settings
  3. Select Network
  4. Make sure Ethernet is selected in the column on the left.
  5. Click on Advanced
  6. Select Hardware from the options at the top. 
  7. The MAC Address will be listed in this menu.
