How to Activate Network Accounts

This will show you how to complete the initial creation of your network account, also known as your NetID.

Overview

New or returning faculty, staff, and  students must activate their UR NetID before using University of Richmond  computing resources, such as email. . Within a few days of depositing as an incoming student, or accepting an offer of employment, you will receive an email at your personal address from the UR Help Desk with a subject of "University of Richmond Account Activation." This email will contain a secure link that you will use to start the activation process.

The account activation process requires that you enter your numerical University ID (URID). For incoming undergraduate students, this information can be found in the Spider Portal. New employees may access this information in their offer letter at the University of Richmond Career Site. For other students (graduate, exchange, non-credit, Osher, etc.) please refer to information provided by your specific program or school.

Details / Instructions

1. To activate your account, click on the secure link found in your account activation email. 

2. Enter the University ID (8-digit number) and date of birth in the format MM/DD/YYYY. Click Submit.

3. Set a new password for the network account. The password must be a minimum of 16 characters, contain at least one capital letter, one lower case letter, and one number.  Click Change.

4. If the password is set successfully, you will be asked to set your security questions. Click the Save button when finished. 

5. You will then be presented with an account summary page displaying your First and Last name, as they will appear in the directory, your Email Address, and your NetID. Please be sure to record your email address and NetID. The NetID is your user name for logging into your campus email and most other UR computing resources. Your Duo enrollment status will also be shown. Enrollment in Duo at the University is mandatory. Click Enroll Now, if required.
