What is Microsoft Office 365? 

Microsoft Office 365 is a subscription-based software suite that provides desktop apps that you are used to and cloud-based apps that may be new to you. You may access your desktop apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc) in the normal way you are used to and you may access Office 365 cloud apps by visiting the appropriate URL (https;//outlook.office.com, https://word.office.com, https://excel.office.com, etc).

To have Office 365 installed on your University-owned computer, contact the help desk. 

What does Office 365 include?

Our version (license) of Office 365 includes the following desktop & cloud-based apps:

  • Outlook
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Powerpoint
  • OneNote
  • Publisher
  • Access

What does Office 365 not include?

Our version (license) of Office 365 does not include the following: 

Can I install Office 365 on a personal device?

Office 365 may be installed on up to (5) personal devices, using your University of Richmond credentials. Visit https://portal.office.com, tap on "Install apps" -> "Microsoft 365 apps" to start the download. If you are logged into the Office website with a different username, you will need to log out and log back in with your UR credentials before you will see the "Install apps" option. To install Office 365 on a University-owned computer, please contact the help desk. 

How does Office 365 work without OneDrive?

Without OneDrive, some functionality is missing including online collaboration, cloud storage and the Microsoft app launcher. Box / Box for Office  / Box for Office Online can be used to fill some of the gaps left without OneDrive.
