Body
Overview
You can use tests and surveys to measure student knowledge, gauge progress, and gather information from students.
You assign points to test questions for grading evaluation, but survey questions aren't scored.
Survey results are anonymous, but you can see if a student has completed a survey and view aggregate results for each survey question. At this time, you can create surveys only in the Original Course View.
Details / Instructions
Assessments can be created in a specific content area or within Tests, Surveys, and Pools under the Course Tools drop-down on the left panel. Assessments created in the Tests, Surveys, and Pools tool will be in a list of available options when choosing to add an existing test.
- Navigate to the content area where you would like to deploy a test. Under the assessments menu option, select Test or Survey.
- If you need to create a test or survey but not deploy it yet, navigate to Tests, Surveys, and Pools under the Course Tools drop-down on the left panel. On the Tests or Survey pages, select Build Test or Build Survey.
- On the Test Information page, type a name. Optionally, provide a description and instructions.
- Select Submit.
- On the Test Canvas, from the Create Question menu, select a question type.
- On the Create/Edit page, provide the necessary information to create a question.
- Select Submit.
- When you have added all the questions you need, select OK.
- When you are ready to deploy the test, navigate to the content area where you would like to make it available, and select Assessments then Tests from the top menu. Created but undeployed tests will appear in the "Add an Existing Test" box. Select your test and then select Submit.
When you deploy a test or survey in a content area, you set the options for feedback, due date, restrict by location, timer, multiple attempts, and presentation. If you need to edit these settings later, open a test or survey's menu and select Edit the Test Options or Edit the Survey Options.
- Multiple Attempts: You can allow students to take a test or survey multiple times. The status of multiple attempts appears to students at the top of the test or survey.
- Force Completion: If you turn on Force Completion, students must complete the test when they launch it. Students may only access the test ONE TIME.
- Set Timer: You can set a timer to limit students’ completion time. You can set the timer to auto-submit the test when the timer ends or allow students to continue working and manually submit. You can view students’ completion times in their submissions.
- Test Availability Exceptions: For existing availability settings, you can make exceptions for individual students or groups. You might use exceptions to provide an accommodation to a student who is disabled or for technology and language differences.
