Solstice Projection via Web Browser

Body

Overview

Recent Mac and Windows updates have affected the functionality of the Mersive Solstice wireless presentation app used in classrooms and meeting spaces. These updates have created synchronization issues when using PDFs or PowerPoint presentations.

When using the Solstice app, you may experience delays, or your presentation may be out of sync with the slide showing on your laptop screen. Mersive is working to resolve these issues, but recommends using their browser connection method in the meantime. When connecting to the projector through a web browser, there are no synchronization issues between your computer and the projected image.

Attached to this article is a PDF that can be printed out for your convenience.

Details/Instructions

Either the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browser must be used. This method of connection does not work with Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari.

1. First, make sure you’re connected to the “URWIN” or “VisitUR” Wi-Fi network.

2. Power on the projector by selecting "Wireless Presentation" on the touch panel controls in the room, if available. In a Conference Room, you may need to use the standard remote control to view your Solstice Pod splash screen. Enter the IP address of the Solstice Pod, shown on the display/projection screen, into a web browser (Chrome or Edge).

The main page for the Solstice Pod you’re connecting to will show up.

3. Select “Share my Screen”.

4. If you encounter a “Your connection is not private” screen, select “Show Advanced” and then “Proceed to (the IP address of the Pod) (unsafe).”

5. Once connected to the Pod, you’ll encounter a screen asking for the four-digit security key from the pod and your name. Enter both and select “Launch!”.

6. Next, a window will pop up asking what you’d like to share. As with the Solstice app, you can share an open a window, a Chrome tab, or your entire screen. Select what you want to share and press the “Share” button in the lower right-hand corner of the pop-up window.

Your content should now be showing on the projector screen through the Solstice Pod. If you have questions about these instructions, please contact the Information Services Help Desk. You can reach us via email at helpdesk@richmond.edu, or submit a support ticket on SpiderTechNet. If you are in the classroom or conference room, you can call 6500 from the phone in the room. Phone support is available from 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM weekdays. (Is there phone support for classrooms and conference rooms on the weekend?)
