This guide provides step-by-step instructions for changing your benefits in Workday. This task is used when a life event (e.g., the birth of a child) occurs that qualifies you to change your benefit election(s) and update beneficiaries and retirement contributions.

There are two steps to changing benefit elections: the first step initiates the process, and the second step enables you to update your benefit elections.

Initiate Benefit Change
- In the Workday homepage search bar, type in Change Benefits and then Change Benefits task.
- Select Change Reason.
- Options are listed for a wide number of change reasons as listed in the picture below including for medical coverage, beneficiary designations, updating contributions to retirement, etc.

- Enter the Event Date or other information that is required based on the change reason selected.
- Some change reasons require specific documentation. To upload a file from your device, under Attachments, click on Select Files.

- NOTE: The specific document will depend on the reason for your change (e.g., Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, etc.). You can also verify with Human Resources or a benefits administrator for the exact documentation needed for your situation.
- OPTIONAL: Type in a Comment that describes the document.
- Select Submit.
- NOTE: Upon submitting, a new task is generated and sent to your Workday inbox based on the workflow to review and approve your benefit change. You can select Open to start working on the task now, or you can navigate to your Workday inbox to complete the task later.

Change Benefit Elections
- Once you submit the Change Benefits task, a new task is sent to your Workday inbox. Under Awaiting Your Action, click on the Benefit Change task.
- Select Let’s Get Started
- On this page, there are eight benefit plans that may be affected by the Change Reason selected. Navigate to the desired benefit(s) plan and select Manage to change the plan.
- NOTE: Your benefit plans will most likely be different than the information that appears here.

- Read the General Instructions, then select your preferences.
- NOTE: You cannot switch plan types; however, you can edit your coverage.

- If applicable, select Confirm and Continue.
- If a Benefit Plan is selected, click Save to save your entries.
- NOTE: Your changes have been updated, but not submitted.
- Once satisfied with your changes, click Review and Sign to submit your changes.
- Review the Summary of your benefits.
- Read the Legal Notice and check the I Accept checkbox.
- Click Submit
- Your benefit elections changes will be processed. As an option you can View your benefits statement. Otherwise click Done.
