iPad and iPhone Wi-Fi connection issues

Changes to urwin will prevent some iPads and iPhones from connecting.

Overview

With the addition of Wi-Fi 6E comes improved security, WPA3, on the Wi-Fi network urwin. Due to this enhanced security, some iPad and iPhone models will no longer be able to connect urwin.

Behavior

When attempting to connect to urwin with an unsupported iPad or iPhone, the device will appear to connect and disconnect to urwin repeatedly and you will be unable to access the internet.

Unsupported Models

The following iPad models will be unable to connect to urwin:

  • iPad 1st generation - iPad 4th generation
  • iPad mini - iPad mini 4
  • iPad Air & iPad Air 2
  • iPad Pro 9.7"
  • iPad Pro 12.9" 1st generation

The following iPhone models will be unable to connect to urwin:

  • iPhone
  • iPhone 3G & 3GS
  • iPhone 4 & 4S
  • iPhone 5 & 5S
  • iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S & 6S Plus
  • iPhone SE 1st generation

FAQ

Is there a fix to get my iPad or iPhone connected to urwin?

Unfortunately, no. WPA3 is only supported on iPad 5th generation or later (i.e., iPad models released in 2017 or later) and iPhone 7 or later (i.e., iPhone models released in late 2016 or later).

My iPad or iPhone is no longer supported but I need to connect it to the internet. What should I do?
