Overview
Have you ever needed to connect your laptop to the Internet, but didn't have a WiFi connection available? With a "Hotspot" enabled data plan on your mobile device, you can use it as a mobile WiFi "Hotspot" for other devices.
This article will explain how to use that feature on your Android device.
If you are unsure if your data plan has this feature, check with your service provider, or you may be able to tell by looking at your plan on-line. If you have a University issued mobile device, the Telecom Office can help you with this.

The hotspot features on your device are in the Settings App
In Settings, you should see Network and Internet near the top, tap this to go to the Network settings screen.
On the Network and Internet settings screen, you see Hotspot and Tethering. Tap this to select the Hostpot settings screen
On the Hotspot & Tethering settings screen, you should see Wi-Fi hotspot at the top. Tap Wi-Fi hotspot to go to the hotspot settings.
Turn the Hotspot on using the slider next to 'Off'. You will also see the name of your Hotspot, and the security settings. The Hotspot password you will need is hidden on this screen, but you can see and/or change it by tapping 'Hotspot password'.
To turn off the Hotspot, simply return to this screen and use the slider to turn it off.
The Hotspot will remain active as long as a device is attached, and is using the Internet connection. If you disconnect from the Hotspot, it will usually turn itself off after a few minutes, to conserve battery life.
