Overview
Zoom is a conferencing tool that offers video, audio, and screen-sharing capabilities across multiple platforms. Zoom is available to all University of Richmond faculty, staff, and students.
Details / Instructions
If you do not already have a Zoom account set up, get started here: https://urichmond.zoom.us. Login with your NetID and password. The first time you use Zoom, you’ll be prompted to run and install the zoom-launcher.
Host a Zoom meeting
If you haven’t downloaded the Zoom application:
- Go to https://urichmond.zoom.us
- Click Host
- Enter your NetID and password
- Download the Zoom installer
- Select New Meeting
- This will launch the Zoom meeting where you can invite participants
If you already downloaded the Zoom application:
- Launch Zoom
- If prompted to sign in, select sign in
- Click sign in with SSO
- Enter urichmond under “your company domain” then click continue
- Select New Meeting
Default Meeting Settings:
- Screen sharing disabled for participants
- Waiting room enabled
- Meetings require a password to join
- File transfer is no longer available on the platform
- Web client disabled on the platform
Invite Participants
- Launch the Zoom meeting
- Click on the invite button at the bottom of the meeting window
- There are multiple methods to share the invitation:
- Recommended method: Click on Copy URL, then paste the URL into an email message to the participants you would like to invite.
- Click on Copy invitation, then paste the message into an email to the participants you would like to invite.
- Click one of the email provider icons. Your chosen email service provider will appear with an invitation.
Join a meeting
If you haven’t downloaded the Zoom application:
- Click on the Zoom meeting link that was sent to you
- Download and run the Zoom installer file to download the application
- Install Zoom
- Click on open zoom.us in the pop-up window in your web browser
- You are now connected to the Zoom meeting
If you already downloaded the Zoom application:
- Click on the Zoom meeting link that was sent to you
- Click on open zoom.us in the pop-up window in your web browser
- Select your audio settings (Computer Audio is recommended)
- You are now connected to the Zoom meeting
