How to Find your Computer's IP Address

Overview

The instructions below can used to find the the wireless or wired/Ethernet IP address for your Windows Computer or Mac. While connected the University's network, the IP address for the wired/Ethernet network will begin with "141" and for the wireless network will begin with a "172".

Below are examples of how this is formatted:

Wired/Ethernet IP : 141.x.x.x
Wireless IP: 172.x.x.x

Instructions

Windows:

Wireless IP AddressShow

Open Windows Settings.
Select Network & Internet.
Select WiFi on the left menu.
Click on the wireless network that you are currently connected to. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Properties section.
Your IP address will appear next to the IPv4 Address.

Wired/Ethernet IP AddressShow

Open Windows Settings.
Select Network & Internet.
Select Ethernet on the left menu and select your network connection.
Your IP address will appear next to the IPv4 Address.

MacOS:

Wireless IP AddressShow

Click on the Apple icon.
Select System Preferences.
Select Network.
Make sure Wi-Fi is selected in the column on the left.
The IP address for the wireless will be showing under the "Status" at the top of the Network Preferences window.

Wired/Ethernet IP AddressShow

Click on the Apple icon.
Select System Preferences.
Select Network.
Make sure Ethernet is selected in the column on the left.
The IP Address will be listed under the "Status" section on the right side of the window.
