09/30/2022 IS Alert: Natural Disaster Scams and Phishing Attempts

Over the course of the next several weeks you should remain on alert for malicious cyber activity related to potential disaster victim relief and charitable donors. Fraudulent emails, often containing malicious links or attachments, are common after major natural disasters. Exercise caution in handling emails with hurricane-related subject lines, attachments, or hyperlinks. In addition, be wary of social media pleas, texts, or door-to-door solicitations relating to severe weather events.

If you receive a communication that you suspect is a scam or phishing attempt, please forward the message to spam@richmond.edu for our review. You may also contact the Help Desk at 804-287-6400 for assistance.

Remember that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and you are the best defense against cyber threats.
