Install new Windows Update client


In November, 2020, the University's Windows Update server was upgraded to enable Windows computers to receive updates when off campus without needing the VPN. Please follow the directions below to confirm your computer has the new client installed.

Details / Instructions

Step 1: The new client will install automatically when connected to the network

     On Campus: If you are connected to the campus network the client will automatically update

     Off Campus: Connect to the VPN and leave the VPN connected for at least 30 minutes

Step 2: Verify New Client has been Installed

  1. From the Start Menu, search for and open the Control Panel
  2. Inside Control Panel, adjust the View By settings to Large icons or Small icons if necessary
  3. Open Configuration Manager
  4. Select the Network tab
  5. Verify that the Internet-based management point says: RICHMONDCMG.RICHMOND.EDU/CCM_Proxy_MutualAuth/#### (as shown below)
  6. Your computer is now configured to receive updates from the University Update Server without needing to be connected to the VPN
